Below is some text that you can use and customize when sending letters or emails to friends and neighbors to as for their support of the rail trail project. A Word document is also attached (available here) if a printed letter is preferred.
Dear friends –
I am excited about a project underway here in Needham that will convert an abandoned railroad corridor into a lovely recreational path that will run almost two miles out to a scenic area overlooking the Charles River.
Over time, we hope the path will become the beginning of the Bay Colony Rail Trail, extending over the Charles and continuing another five miles through Dover and into Medfield. In the meantime, the Needham portion will provide a wonderful place for strolling, walking, jogging, and leisurely bike rides for all ages.
In Needham, the project is moving forward well, and has full and enthusiastic support of town officials. We have a well-defined target of $235,000 to complete the initial phases of the project, which will result in a firm, natural stone dust surface running from High Rock St out to the Charles River. I’m writing to ask you to support the trail financially.
The timing is important. For the next several days, donations will go twice as far thanks to a local family foundation, which has offered to double all private donations until November 4th.
On the project website, you can join the growing list of individuals and families that have sponsored a segment of the trail, where your donation of $100 will assign you sponsorship of a specific foot of the trail. Donors will be recorded on the site, on the Tracking Our Progress page.
You can make a tax-deductible donation in one of two ways: online at needham.baycolonyrailtrail.org, or by sending a check to:
